Print your own roller

Everything you download here is free to print yourself. A solid core with a flexible TPU outer as the print surface — simple to make, easy to roll.

How the roller works

Each design is two parts: a rigid core that fits your roller frame, and a flexible TPU sheet carrying the raised pattern. Wrap the sheet around the core and glue its two edges together. Roll it through paint and onto the wall — the raised pattern is what touches the surface.

Prefer a single piece? The one-piece sleeve download combines both, but the pattern surface then prints in the same rigid material as the body, so we recommend the core + sheet pair for the best paint release.

Core — rigid filament (PLA or PETG)

  • Print vertically (standing on end).
  • 9" standard: use a brim, and set 100% concentric infill in the 3.5 mm core wall so it can't flex.
  • 4" mini: 3–4 perimeters, no hollow infill — print it solid.
  • Layer height 0.2 mm is fine; the core is hidden inside the sheet.

TPU sheet — flexible filament (TPU 95A)

  • Print flat, pattern side up, at 0.2 mm layers (0.15 mm for finer detail).
  • Slow down: 20–30 mm/s, and disable or minimise retraction.
  • 3–4 top and bottom layers so the pattern face and the base are solid.
  • The sheet uses a 1 mm backing with a 3 mm raised pattern.

Assembly

  1. Slide the core onto your roller frame to check the fit.
  2. Wrap the TPU sheet around the core, pattern facing out.
  3. Glue the two edges together along the full length. Choose the Butted edge for a simple edge-to-edge join, or Angled for overlapping edges that hide the seam.
  4. Cover both mould cavities with parchment paper so excess glue cannot bond the roller to the mould.
  5. Place the roller between the two rigid mould halves. Fit 2–3 clamps evenly along the flat outer faces and tighten gradually until the halves meet.
  6. Leave the glue to cure fully before removing the clamps, mould and parchment paper.

Tip: in the designer, use the Flat sheet 3D preview to check the pattern stays clear of the seam. The X/Y offset sliders move the pattern if it crosses the join — a pattern on the join is harder to print cleanly.

Two-part clamping mould — rigid filament

  • Download and print both mould halves in PLA or PETG.
  • Print each half on its broad, flat outer face; 0.2–0.3 mm layers are suitable.
  • Use 3–4 walls and at least 20% infill so clamp pressure is spread evenly.
  • The cavity automatically follows the selected core, 1 mm TPU backing and 3 mm pattern height.
  • A small allowance is included for parchment paper and normal printer tolerances.
